Indoor Compost – Tips to Make One at Low Cost

Persons living in apartments or less space think of how to make indoor compost as they do not have more or no outdoor space. But when composting indoors enough care should be taken in the selection of the containers. When planning to just recycle the kitchen waste in a simple manner, a small container could be used and kept under the sink or worktable.

For controlling the bad odor when making indoor compost, the container used for composting should have a tight lid or carbon filters. Ceramic or stainless steel composting containers not only look good but are also ideal for indoor composting. Even plastic container with charcoal filter can be used as indoor compost containers.

When learning how to make indoor compost, one should also learn what not to use. There are certain kitchen waste which are not only difficult to compost but also produce bad smell they are fish bones, potato peeling, garlic, dairy products and meat scraps. Such materials should be avoided at any cost. The same way watermelon rinds and any material which is sprayed with pesticides need to be avoided. Some of the kitchen waste that are found to be ideal for indoor composting includes peels of vegetables, fruits, cores, tea bags, leaves, filters of coffee or grounds, pasta, beans, breads and even rice.

On whole indoor composting is very much possible but should be done in a proper manner.
