Kitchen compost is a pile of organic food materials that are added to a small compost bin or bucket placed in a corner of the kitchen. This can be cleared either on a daily basis or when it gets full and transfer them to another pile of compost materials in the garden.
Obviously, the most common materials that can be added in the kitchen compost are fruit and vegetable scraps, though any organic food scraps can be added to the kitchen scrap. Organic food materials help the compost material to break down and decompose at a much faster rate.
Apart from these, coffee grounds, tea grounds are the best materials that can be added to the kitchen compost which are very beneficial to the plants because coffee and tea grounds are very rich in nutrients and vitamins that would enhance the overall composting efforts.
There is another advantage, too. Coffee and tea grounds help to reduce the odor that emanate from the pile of rotting organic vegetables and fruits. Not only the extract, even tea bags or coffee filter bags that are made of paper can also be added to kitchen compost.
There are many more things that could be included in kitchen compost such as plain old paper, card board boxes that come along with food , wrappers that all contribute towards making a wonderful, rich compost as an end product. A kitchen is not complete without fruits and vegetables and so is kitchen compost, without the wastes of fruits and vegetables.
