Compost Containers – Plastic and Wooden Compost Containers
Compost containers are of many types such as those built with items on hand and others that are purchased from the shop and are complicated with added features. But basically, a compost container should serve the purpose of being able to take the compost easily while needed and the compost in the container must be kept moist always up to the edges.
Compost containers that are purchased can either be made of plastic or wooden types that need to be assembled. Such containers, invariably, have front panels that are lifted out for easy access to the compost. In plastic compost containers, air is allowed to pass through the bottom while the lid is useful in keeping the contents dry and heat inside.
Gardeners who want compost containers to their liking can also build them on their own. Such compost containers can be made out of posts and chicken wires and card board or a large plastic barrel, as well as with bricks.
Generally, compost can be made ready twice in a year, although the amount of compost obtained depends upon the materials used and the weather. Also, it takes a little planning to good layering technique to get good compost such as, a layer of horse manure or straw, followed by grass cuttings and then manure would be ideal.
Adding some sort of a compost activator or nitrogen fertilizer would further speed up the process. Adding compost materials little by little and then covering with the lid would yield rich, brown compost in a period of time.
