Composters

Apart from making your own composter, which is a relatively easier job, there are two different types of composters namely; a static type of composter and the other is the rotating type.

The static type of composter is simpler and may take a little longer time to compost, as against the rotating type that rotate like a wheel barrel to churn the waste material into a composting mixture, rather rapidly.

Of course, in its simplest form, composters can be built out of pieces of scrap lumber or rail road pallets. It can be reinforced with wire mesh or plastic mesh that would help to keep rodents and other animals away. Three sides of this type of composter can be closed and one side kept open or alternatively, the open side can be used to get access to the compost or turn the material with a shovel.

Composters with a lid are better to keep away the odor, pests and flies, away. Wooden chest are also used for this purpose but it has the risk of degrade in course of time and in addition, wood has acidity, which slows down the process of composting.

Generally static bins are made of plastic, black in color because black has a tendency to absorb radiation from the sun and sustain the heat. This helps to speed up the process of disintegration. It is essential that the container has holes in it because air is needed for decomposition to take place. Tumbler types of composters come on wheels and so, the entire compost can be taken on wheels to the place where they are needed, which is very convenient.
