Composting is a very good hobby and is, in fact, a service to the society because you reduce the amount of trash that goes to the landfill that is harmful to the environment. This is being realized by a majority of the people and those living in urban areas and do not have ample garden space are also eagerly willing to come forward and compost with whatever material they have, such as kitchen waste.

To compost, it is enough if a person has the intention and a little bit of effort. Internet is full of advertisements about the innumerable types of compost bins. But in reality, a simple compost bin can be made at home, using things that are found around.

In its simplest form, a compost heap can be made using four pallets and a few nails. A small square area is enough and the four pallets can be arranged with the edges touching each other. Then, all of them can be simply nailed or screwed together and it would not take more than an hour or two and this simple compost bin is guaranteed to last at least for a few years.

To make a little more complicated compost bin, a lid can be made at the top to avoid pests and rodents finding their way in and three sides closed and one side open, so that when compost is ready, it can be easily accessed. A system of three or more compost bins can also be made at home so that the materials from one bin can be transferred to the other in regulated cycle to assure that there is a constant supply of compost for the plants. Composting is the most useful hobby, ever.
