Building a compost bin is very easy and can be accomplished in almost three easy steps. Compost bins are containers that are used to hold the materials for composting and are usually made of wood or plastic. Compost can be made from the convenience of the home and can be built easily, using free materials that are available around.
In the simplest form, compost bin can be made from recycled lumber like hardwood pallets that are discarded. Three by three pallets would do, to make a decent compost bin. Free compost bins are better placed in the garden where they are easily accessible so that more and more garden wastes and kitchen scraps can be added.
The three pallets have to be assembled together and using small nails or screws, the free compost bin can be made ready, within a short span of time. It is better to assemble the pallets where the bin is going to be placed because once it is assembled; it is not easy to move.
Now, it is time to add the materials needed to make compost that are freely available. It is better to add them in small pieces like shredded leaves and bits of papers and so on, since smaller pieces tend to compost rather quickly, as compared to larger pieces. Also, they do not emanate a foul smell.
The compost is best when it is a little moist and not damp as moisture hastens the process of composting. One of the front panels of the free compost bin can be opened to access black gold of rich compost at the bottom of the bin.
