Compost – Effortless Home Composting Methods

Compost is a mixture of decaying organic matter such as leaves and manure that is used to provide nutrients and improve the soil structure. Useful compost can be made from left over food and children can be practiced to dump the left over food into a pit in the backyard of the house.

The process of composting is almost effortless and requires no maintenance at all. Compost is better if it has both brown bulky substances that promote aeration and green substances that are high in moisture that level the dry nature of the brown substances. Brown items are carbon rich in nature, for instance, leaves, hay, shredded paper, twigs and so on and nitrogen rich green substances help to attract compost producing organisms. Examples of green items are vegetables, egg shells, fruit wastes, grass clippings and other such chemical free substances.

Substances that have to be avoided in compost are chemically treated wood products, meat, bones, pet waste, peanut butter, dairy products and so on. The compost would take some time to begin its natural recycling process and start to compress and decompose.

Regardless of the type of composter, composting is a long process and can be aided to some extent by keeping the composter in the sun. This yields a complete, earthy, dark, crumbly substance which makes excellent manure and enriches the soil. And needless to say, the world’s best compost is developing the own compost in the backyard of the house, giving the satisfaction of blooming all the flowers in their full glory.
