Compost Spreader

Compost spreaders are used to distribute compost evenly, throughout the soil. It is a cone shaped or barrel shaped container with feed gate controllers that helps to have a control over the amount and range of compost that is dispensed in an area.

Compost spreaders can be pushed or pulled, attached to an ATV or hitched to a tractor which all depends upon the size. Basically, a compost spreader consists of large hoppers which are positioned above horizontally spinning disks that actually throws all the material away from the spreader. Some of the models may have directional fins so that it is possible to control over which direction the compost is to be thrown. Some of the larger compost spreaders have a pendulum spreading mechanism but they are mostly used, commercially.

Compost spreaders are of two types, drop spreaders and broad cast spreaders. Drop spreaders, as is evident from their name, dispense the compost by dropping them straight down and directly below a hopper. This is useful for small patches of land like lawns and gardens. Broadcast spreaders dispense material in the preset direction and size. It is possible to spread compost to distances as far as eight feet and is useful for larger areas of land.

Compost spreaders that come with electric feed gates are better for larger hoppers and manual feed gates for smaller hoppers. Aluminum hoppers are light weight and they can also withstand heavy loads and frequent use.
