Vessel Composting

Vessel composting is the panacea for those who have a desire to composting but do not have enough space. They cannot have the luxury of having a compost bin for creating the best compost but a compost vessel made of a simple bucket would be enough for composting.

The other part of the population who do not compost, do not realize that thirty percent of the kitchen waste and yard waste constitute the landfill. This organic matter can be converted into rich compost and can contribute their part to make the planet greener.

A vessel to compost with a lid does not take up a lot of space and can simply sit in the corner of the patio, yard or balcony. Yard clipping such as grass and shrubs and cut offs and dead leaves can be initially put into the compost vessel. Most of the kitchen scraps like egg shells, coffee grounds, vegetables and fruit peels are added to the compost vessel.

A plastic bag can be used to line the compost vessel since this would help in reducing the chance of smell and would also help to take the compost out, when it is ready. Items that have to be avoided in vessel composting are meat scraps, bones and fish parts and fatty foods like cheese, butter, salad dressing and oil. Animal wastes and diseased plants have to be strictly prohibited from compost material.

Vessel composting is certainly an answer for those who have limited space in urban areas and fortunately, does not need a huge investment.
